I thought I had talked about Dead Man in here, but it appears as though I was way mistaken!
I watched Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man last week sometime, and I think it might be my new favorite Jarmusch (replacing Down By Law). In fact, I liked it so much, I think it might be one of my new favorite movies, period. Man it's just so creepy and bad-ass and Robert freakin' Mitchum is in it! And Crispin Glover and Iggy Pop and Billy Bob Thornton and Gibby Haynes and Alfred Molina and John Hurt, and Johnny Depp doesn't do so bad neither! It's funny to see movies populated with rock stars playing various roles. Special mention for Gary Farmer, who played Depp's character's Indian Guide "Nobody"--he was really great (and hilarious when it was called for, which was often). Also the Neil Young score is deliciously crunchy and super-sweet. I should get Ghost Dog-The Way Of The Samurai from the library again (last time I checked it out, from Webster University's library, I didn't watch it--this after having missed it in the theatres, which I didn't wanna do--but Russ watched it and said it was coo'...not to mention, it's from my favorite year in film since I've been alive, 1999).
Maybe some "here's what this weekend was about" post will come soon.
